Although Randall’s Island is part of the borough of Manhattan, it — as it names suggests — is very much its own island. Indeed, what is often referred to as Randall’s Island is both Randall’s Island and Wards Island, which were connected using landfill in the 1930′s as part of Robert Moses’ recreational plan for the islands. Randall’s Island lies within the East River with Manhattan to its west, the Bronx to its north and Queens to its East.
Randall’s Island’s waterfront lends itself to walking and biking along the shoreline. Fishing is allowed in the rivers that surround the island. At this time, there is no public marina or boat launch on Randall’s Island. However, there is public ferry service for major events on the island.
