Randall’s Island Park Alliance would like to congratulate the students in our RIPA Dance Program for magnificent performances of the Nutcracker in late December!
The 5th Grade classes from PS182- Bicultural/Bilingual Middle School and the PS72-Lexington Academy participated in weekly 90 minute dance classes at Icahn Stadium. Each dance lesson begins with an intense cardio warm-up followed by 15 min of stretching. The remaining class time was spent working on dances, choreographed to music from Peter Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Due to the school closings that resulted from Hurricane Sandy each group lost a substantial amount of practice time this fall but were able to stay focus, work hard, and perform their final dances in December.
In the end, the students from Lexington Academy successfully performed 3 Nutcracker recitals to their community of students, faculty, family and friends, including one performance for the Children’s Aid Society’s Head Start Program. BBMS performed 2 Nutcracker recitals to students, faculty, family, and friends.
Randall’s Island Park Alliance would like to thank our dance teacher, Ms. Chantal St. Gerard for her hard work throughout the season and her dedication to the students and the program! Many thanks to Principal Andrea Hernandez, AP Wanda Fontanez, Mrs. Rivera, Mrs. Praño, and Mrs. Young from BBMS and Principal Antonio Hernandez, AP Stephanie Garren, Mrs. Nichols, Mrs. Rancap-Perez, Mrs. Rey, and Mrs. Reyes from Lexington Academy. We would also like to thank Antonio Freitas from Children’s Aid Society for arranging that performance. Job well done by all!
