At the onset of the cooler months\, we’re bringing you a family-friendly day of fun centering the end of the growing season and outdoor recreation. Decorate and bring home your very own pumpkin from our immersive patch\, press cider from delicious\, fresh apples\, participate in a cooking demonstration with seasonal vegetables\, enjoy live performances\, have your face painted\, and learn about nature with our partners. \nThere will be a free Bike Valet provided by Transportation Alternatives. Safely park your bikes and enjoy the festivities with ease of mind. Citi Bikes will not be included in this valet service\, so if you take a Citi Bike to the festival\, please find the nearest docking station to park\, or ask a RIPA staff member where to dock. DESCRIPTION:Join the NYC Compost Project with Big Reuse as we manage the 5-bin compost system at Randall’s Island Urban Farm! \nWe will be breaking down paper bags/sticks/yard waste into appropriate sizes for composting\, decontaminating food scraps and chopping whole fruits or vegetables in preparation for the compost pile\, turning phase 2 compost piles\, as well as sifting out finished compost. \nYour volunteer work with us helps divert food scraps and organic waste away from land-fill which decreases greenhouse gas emissions as well as creates a soil amendment out of that organic waste which goes back into parks\, gardens\, and public green spaces in our local area. DESCRIPTION:Volunteers will package thousands of seeds to give away next season! Each growing season\, the Urban Farm gives away hundreds of seed packets at its welcome table during weekend Open Hours. Seed packets are extremely popular with our visitors — so much so that it is hard to keep the table stocked. \nThis indoor activity will require volunteers to package and label seeds to give away to the public.
