SUMMARY:International Coastal Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:The International Coastal Clean Up is an annual event that helps us keep our shoreline free of marine plastics and refuse! \nJoin members from the community and different partners for our annual coastal cleanup with us and the Ocean Conservancy. With miles of rocky coastline\, Randall’s Island Park can always use a hand removing marine plastics and litter that gather between the rocks and in our marshes.\n\nBeginning at Icahn Stadium\, volunteers will be sent to various places on the island to collect and record what they have removed from the park.\n\nLast year volunteers collected more than 500 pounds of litter and plastics permanently removing them from our water systems!\nRegistration is required here. \nLocation: Wards Meadow Public Bathroom \nFor inquiries about accessibility\, to request an accommodation or for event information\, please email publicprograms@randallsisland.org.

SUMMARY:Composting with Big Reuse
DESCRIPTION:Join the NYC Compost Project with Big Reuse as we manage the 5-bin compost system at Randall’s Island Urban Farm! \nWe will be breaking down paper bags/sticks/yard waste into appropriate sizes for composting\, decontaminating food scraps and chopping whole fruits or vegetables in preparation for the compost pile\, turning phase 2 compost piles\, as well as sifting out finished compost. \nYour volunteer work with us helps divert food scraps and organic waste away from land-fill which decreases greenhouse gas emissions as well as creates a soil amendment out of that organic waste which goes back into parks\, gardens\, and public green spaces in our local area. DESCRIPTION:Join the NYC Compost Project with Big Reuse as we manage the 5-bin compost system at Randall’s Island Urban Farm! \nWe will be breaking down paper bags/sticks/yard waste into appropriate sizes for composting\, decontaminating food scraps and chopping whole fruits or vegetables in preparation for the compost pile\, turning phase 2 compost piles\, as well as sifting out finished compost. \nYour volunteer work with us helps divert food scraps and organic waste away from land-fill which decreases greenhouse gas emissions as well as creates a soil amendment out of that organic waste which goes back into parks\, gardens\, and public green spaces in our local area. SUMMARY:Fall Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join the Randall’s Island Park Alliance and our Natural Areas Team for one last push to cleanup the park while the weather is still agreeable. Volunteers will not only help with picking up litter and debris but also remove invasive species\, clean walking trail paths and other duties to put us on a good path for the winter months.  \nGloves\, tools and instructions included.  \nAll participants must sign a Waiver of Liability. Teens aged 16 and 17 years old may volunteer without adult supervision but they must bring a waiver found at this link\, signed by a parent or guardian.  \nMinors under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or adult and bring the attached waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
