Randall’s Island Park has a rich history of hosting cultural events and continues to do so today. Throughout the year, RIPA provides numerous free drop-in programs such as walking tours, movie nights, waterfront activities and our annual Cherry Blossom and Harvest Festivals. In addition, large special events, produced by independent organizations other than the City and RIPA, offer visitors a great variety of exciting options – continuing the Island’s strong tradition as a central entertainment venue for New York City.

Outdoor Movie Night – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (PG-13)

This 1986 classic film tells the story of Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), a high school student who fakes sickness to skip school. He brings along his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) on a one-day adventure through the streets of Chicago. Close on his every move is his sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) and high school principal Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) who doesn’t believe that he is home sick. Whether you are watching this 80s film again or seeing it for the first time, come out and enjoy the fun because as Ferris says: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”
