Randall’s Island Living Shoreline Tour

May 18, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm

Join the NYC Department of City Planning and the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) for a tour of the various shorelines of Randall’s Island including historic seawalls, 20th-century transformations, and newly constructed green infrastructure. The tour will finish at the recently completed living shoreline, which features dynamic components designed to demonstrate coastal resiliency, habitat improvement, and public access. The tour will be followed by an optional bio-survey of the site, where staff and participants will document the biodiversity of NYC’s coastal ecosystems firsthand including constructed tide pools, intertidal plantings, and a maritime meadow. Participants will learn how these monitoring efforts are supporting research on issues such as water quality and the success of restoration work in urban environments.

Location: Base of the 103rd Street Footbridge
