Field Studies + Large Prints

In 2011 I made a series of landscape collages called Field Studies which this project is an extension of. These collages are composed of images of trees and landscape elements culled from New York and New Jersey phone books ads. I arranged them so the small ones were toward the horizon and the big ones were in the foreground to create depth. I am excited to place these trees within the real landscape of New York, and to have them juxtaposed with real trees!

For New Growth, I chose 8 of my favorite tree images, but there were many runners up. Here is a selection of other great abstracted tree images. I think of these as regional ideas of what a tree is, filtered through a commercial lens.

And here is the latest in-progress shot: the digital prints cut out with a jigsaw. The tallest of these is 7 feet.
