So that I can layer in a material connection between the three boroughs referenced, the mapping of the bridge, and the cosmic distances, I am mixing a unique concrete compound for each art of Meters To The Center. My approach is to find some rocks, dirt, or sand from each borough to fold into the concrete pour for that number. How to chose what to collect and where? I have found the balancing center point, or centroid, of Manhattan, Queens, and The Bronx–imagine balancing the shape of Queens on a pin–and then letting this center point guide me to the exact spot where I need to find the stuff for the concrete compound. It's a little like a map game that lets the shape of the boroughs tell me where to go. Ultimately, these spots were quotidian places within the fabric of their neighborhoods.
