Randall’s Island Park’s 60+ playing fields, nearly half of Manhattan’s athletic fields, are the lifeblood of the Randall’s Island Park Alliance’s mission to provide safe, green open spaces for all New Yorkers.
The Alliance maintains these fields, which:
- Serve as the home fields for 70+ schools and youth leagues and 24 adult athletic leagues.
- Support more than 1 million athletes each year, who play soccer, baseball, softball, football, lacrosse, field hockey, rugby, and more.
Our fields are booked to capacity, especially after school and on weekends. Athletes come from public, private, and parochial schools, as well as adult leagues, and represent teams from across New York City.
About The Fields Fund
The Fields Fund supports essential capital investments that improve field quality, increase durability, and expand access, ensuring safe, high-quality playing surfaces for the extraordinary number of young people and adults who rely on Randall’s Island Park every day.
The Fields Fund allows the Alliance to invest in capital projects for our fields. Recent and upcoming projects include:
Recently Completed Projects
Fields 82-85: Restoration and Enhancement
- Old turf was removed, pathways and fences repaired, and the subsurface regraded and leveled to create a safer, more durable foundation. The fields now feature new, state-of-the-art synthetic turf and new goals. The adjacent picnic areas and lawns have also been restored.
Projects In Progress
Fields 61, 80, & 81: Restoration
- Three grass fields that had been used more frequently when Fields 82-85 were closed are in poor condition. In spring 2026, the Alliance will invest to restore and re-sod these three key fields to improve conditions for the near term.
Future Projects (With Available Funding)
Existing Synthetic Fields (10, 70, 72-75, 90-91):
- Planned replacement of existing synthetic fields to ensure their current capacity to serve 800,000+ athletes each year.
Lighting Fields (80-85):
- Will further extend playable hours, providing for 125,000+ athletes each year, doubling the current capacity.
