F.A.Q.
Alcohol is prohibited at Randall’s Island Park, and in all New York City Parks. Please refer to the rules and regulations of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation for further details.
Yes, but it is only permitted in the following designated picnic areas:
- lawns adjacent to the Scylla Playground;
- along the waterfront at the south end of the park;
- between the pedestrian pathway and river near the Bronx Shore section;
- Sunken Meadow waterfront (specifically, the berm between Fields 27 and 30, and the waterfront behind Fields 31-40 between the pathway and the river);
- Harlem River Picnic Area near the ferry dock; and
between Icahn Stadium and the Golf Center the area known as the “Flagpole - Lawns”.
Please note: There is no barbecuing on or near the playing fields, pathways, or gardens or inside the playground.
Safety Rules: Park visitors may bring their own barbecue. Barbecuing and other open flames are not permitted under or near trees or other vegetation; Parks Department rules require 10 feet distance. Both charcoal and propane grills are allowed. Charcoal coals must be extinguished and cooled with water and discarded in the red hot ash bins. Coals must not be dumped on the ground or by trees. Per NYC code, only small (canister or 5-lb) propane tanks are permitted.
