Gotham Earns CONCACAF Win at Icahn Stadium
Despite the rain, hundreds of Gotham FC fans called Icahn Stadium home as the beloved women’s club defeated CF Monterrey 2-1 to start their CONCACAF title defense.
Gotham joined NYC FC II as the professional soccer teams to host a match at Icahn Stadium, with NYC FC II slated to have three more games at Randall’s Island Park this season.
The action started early with Gotham getting on the board within the first ten minutes of the match. Bruninha opened the scoring with teammate Khyah Harper netting what ended up being the game-winning goal only a few moments later.
Monterrey midfielder Marcela Restrepo scored her club’s lone goal in the first half as they were unable to break Gotham’s exceptional defense for the rest of the evening.
Gotham picks up its NWSL schedule this coming Saturday at home against the Utah Royals, and play their next CONCACAF match on Sept. 2 in El Salvador.
