May Brings Free, Seasonal Public Programming to the Park!
As the Weather Warms, Our Fun Events Ramp Up in May!
This May, join us for fun & free events at Randall’s Island Park!
Each week, volunteer with Team RIVER (Wednesdays from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM) or on the Urban Farm (Sundays from 10 AM – 1 PM). Tuesday Yoga in the Park also begins this month from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at the East River Picnic Area! On Saturdays, the Jesse Owens Track & Field Youth Program meets from 10 AM – 12 PM at Thomas Jefferson Park in East Harlem.
On Saturday, May 9, celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at our Bird Bonanza on the Urban Farm from 10 AM – 1 PM!
Enjoy a guided tour by Gabriel Willow, an education bird presentation by Ravensbeard Wildlife Center, and themed Storytime Stretches with Lofty Heights Movement. There will also be crafts, games, and giveaways.
Big Truck Day is on Saturday, May 16, from 12 – 3 PM on the Asphalt Pad behind Icahn Stadium!
Learn how garbage truck drivers, police officers, farmers, and other big truck operators use these vehicles to drive our city forward. Visit each truck and learn from the operators themselves about how they use their truck every day. You might even have the chance to sit in the front seat and pose for a photo!
Our first Food Demo on the Urban Farm of the season is on Saturday, May 30, from 12 – 2 PM!
Visitors will sample produce, take home recipe cards, and ask the Community Food Educator for kitchen tricks, tips, and advice on how to cook with seasonal, local produce.
Also on Saturday, May 30, join us for World Fish Migration Day from 2 – 4 PM on the Rock Dock along the Water’s Edge Garden!
Learn about the many species of fish found in the Harlem River by seining with a 30-foot-long net and counting and measuring what we catch.
We hope to see you in May!
