The Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Inc. (RIPA) uses its best efforts to respect and protect the privacy of our online users, donors, and visitors. The following policy is intended to explain how your personal information will be treated. RIPA operates this web site in accordance with the following privacy policy. By using RIPA’s web site or communicating with RIPA by e-mail, you consent to the terms of this privacy policy.
Data Collection
You may browse RIPA’s web site without submitting personal information. However, if you choose to make a donation, send us an e-mail, register to volunteer or request a newsletter we will ask you for applicable information.
When you make a donation online, you will be asked to provide personally identifiable information necessary to process and service your request. This may include your name, billing and shipping postal addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card number. Your credit card information will be temporarily stored on a secured server only for as long as necessary to process your payment.
When you send RIPA an e-mail, your message and e-mail address will be forwarded to the appropriate department within RIPA and we may save your e-mail as part of our permanent records. Please be aware that any message, material, ideas, concepts, or other information sent to RIPA by e-mail will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.
When you sign up for a volunteer activity or request a newsletter by sending an e-mail or other means, we will request personal information in order to contact you.
Use of Information
Internal Use: We will use your personally identifiable information in order to respond to your request or process your contribution. Your credit card information will be temporarily stored on a secured server only for as long as necessary to process your payment. We may use your information to inform you of events, send you RIPA newsletters, request monetary contributions, and send you promotions and updates about the Park.
External Use/Third Party Vendors: RIPA may engage third-party vendors in order to help us better service our visitors and customers. RIPA requires its vendors by contract to maintain the confidentiality and security of RIPA information to which they are provided access and restricts the vendors from using the information in any way not expressly authorized by RIPA. Please note: RIPA does not rent or sell donor lists.
Your Options
We recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you and use your information. RIPA offers the following options:
Opt out of receiving e-mails: You may “opt out” by e-mailing [email protected], calling 212-830-7722 or following the unsubscribe instructions included in the e-mail message.
Opt out of receiving telephone calls or postal mailings from RIPA: You may contact us at anytime by e-mailing [email protected], or calling 212-830-7722 and letting us know that you would not like to be contacted by telephone or mail.
Opt out of having your name and postal address shared with other organizations: You may request to have your information removed from a shared list at any time by contacting [email protected], or calling 212-830-7722. You will also have regular opportunities to “opt-out” by checking the appropriate box or following the instructions listed on RIPA’s solicitation materials.
Security
RIPA receives your personal and credit card information using secure socket layering (SSL) technology which prevents disclosure of your information to third parties. SSL is the standard for most browsers and servers and encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name and address so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the internet.
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. RIPA staff members are educated on the importance of safeguarding your information and are bound by a confidentiality agreement.
Cookies
The RIPA web site uses cookies (i.e. small files that store information on your computer’s web browser) to enhance user experience on the site. Cookies are used to perform certain functions such as saving passwords, personal interests and preferences; delivering content specific to these interests and preferences; and tracking activity on the website. A cookie cannot be used to get data from your hard drive, get your e-mail address, or steal sensitive information about you. It is simply a line of text in a file.
