Spring Brings Fun Events Along With The Warmer Weather!

April is the kick off month for much of the Randall’s Island Park Alliance’s free public programing here at the Park!

We host recurring volunteer programs for those who want to help keep our parks looking beautiful.

Join the Team RIVER Volunteer on Wednesdays from 9:30-12:30 PM, or volunteer at our Urban Farm on Sundays from 10:00-1:00PM.

Our Jesse Owens Track & Field Youth Spring Program starts on April 11. Every Saturday from 10:00AM-1:00PM at Thomas Jefferson park in East Harlem, the Alliance and the City Parks Foundation run a free, weekly training session to youth ages 8-16 to learn the fundamentals of track & field. Registration is required on LeagueApps with City Parks Foundation.

April 9 come to the shore along the Harlem River to take part in our Seining Kickoff Party!

Grab a pair of waders and help us as we drag a 30-foot-long seining net along the shore of the Harlem River and discover the amazing biodiversity found in our waterways. Students and adults alike can learn how to seine, identify common organisms such as fish, crabs, and jellyfish, and participate in some water themed crafts and activities!

We celebrate the re-opening of some of our more pristine athletic fields (82-85) with our first, ever Community Field Day. This free, family-friendly event will feature sports clinics, games, music, food, and plenty of ways to get active. Enjoy the new fields, connect with local recreation providers, and spend the day playing and celebrating with your community.

Icahn Stadium doesn’t only host track events during the spring, but it’s also home to our Pressed Botanical Workshop on April 18. Join us for a relaxing, creative, free workshop where you’ll learn how to press and arrange flowers and leaves to create beautiful works of art hosted by RIPA’s Horticulture Team.

We close the month with one of our tentpole events, our annual Earth Day Festival! Come to the Urban Farm on Saturday, April 25, for a family-friendly day packed with seasonal fun and hands-on activities. Play games, get creative with nature-inspired crafts, snap photos beneath the beautiful cherry blossoms, enjoy live performances, and soak up the park’s springtime magic. Come celebrate sustainability, community, and our shared connection to the planet.
