With the month of May already getting started, the Randall’s Island Park Alliance is excited to share this beautiful weather with our park patrons with free public programming that celebrates the coming of spring.
Earlier this month, we hosted several events on May 3 including Therapy Dogs on the Farm, Riverkeeper Sweep, and an Herbal Medicine Workshop, and that’s only the beginning to May’s exciting schedule!
On May 10, fly over to Randall’s Island Park for our Bird Bonanza celebration which aligns with World Migratory Bird Day. Enjoy a day dedicated to our feathered friends with engaging activities, a bird tour, and a bird-themed puppet show and story time.
May 14 experience our first Wetland Wednesday here at the Park! Join our Natural Areas team at the Little Hell Gate Salt Marsh and learn about the vital ecosystem that exists in our marsh.
Strap on your seatbelt for our Big Truck Day on May 17, where you can get a close-up view of some of the large vehicles that keep New York City clean and safe!
Wormy Wednesday wiggles into the Park on May 21! Learn about vermicomposting and meet the worms from our compost bin. They’ll be very happy to see you!
Close out the month here at our Black Birders Celebration on May 31! #BlackBirdersWeek is an initiative by Black AF in Stem which uplifts birders and scientists within the Black community. Join renowned local birders for a guided walk through the park and learn about the birds that make their home at the Park.
Our recurring free programs this month include the Jesse Owens Track & Field Youth Program, Yoga in the Park, Team River volunteering, and Urban Farm volunteering. In addition to volunteering on the Farm, there are open hours to visit all throughout the week.
