Enjoy Time at Randall’s Island Park with Late Summer Events
Spend Your August Discovering Randall's Island Park
August is one of the most packed months of the year here at Randall’s Island Park, with so many events happening!
Join us at the East River Picnic Area on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 PM throughout August for our free yoga sessions that will help keep you light and limber! Stretch, breathe, and take in a serene workout with our instructor Nautica Maldonado while watching the sunset on the Harlem River.
We host recurring volunteer programs for those who want to help keep our parks looking beautiful.
Join the Team RIVER Volunteer on Wednesdays from 9:30-12:30 PM, or volunteer at our Urban Farm on Sundays from 10:00-1:00PM.
Our weekly Dance in the Park series continues on Saturday, August 1, at 11:00 AM, at our East River Picnic Area. Learn how to Salsa thanks to instruction from Sweet Water Dance & Yoga while taking in the great views of the Park and the river. On August 8th, the dance style switches to Bachata, then to Soca from August 22!
Kick off the month right on Saturday, August 1! Head to the Urban Farm for Cocktails on the Farm from 5:00-8:00 PM, then stick around for an outdoor Movie Night featuring Zootopia 2 from 8:00-11:00 PM.
Continuing into the month, on Tuesdays, August 4 and 18, come join Birding Adventures with the New York Public Library (NYPL)! At the Living Shoreline, birdwatchers will see swallows catching insects and returning to their nest boxes to feed growing fledglings.
There’s even more on August 15 from 1:00-3:00 PM where you can join our Catch & Release: Fishing Series of events by our living shoreline/ferry dock in the East River Picnic Area! Whether you’re brand new to fishing or looking to brush up on your skills, this hands-on event will introduce the basics while exploring the ecology of the NY/NJ Harbor Estuary.
On August 8, join us for our next Salt Marsh Saturday from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, where you can drop in to explore the Little Hell Gate Salt Marsh with members of RIPA’s Natural Areas Team. Then head over to the Urban Farm from 1:00-3:00 PM for a Cooking on the Farm demonstration highlighting what’s in season.
On August 15 and 22, catch Food Demos at the Urban Farm from 12:00-2:00 PM, then try your hand at our Foraged Fiber Arts Workshop from 1:00-3:00 PM, where you’ll learn to create with natural, foraged materials.
Icahn Stadium opens to the public on August 20th for our fan-favorite event, Community Track Night! Join us on the Icahn Stadium track, home to past Olympic Trials, records set by Jesse Owens, Meseret Defar, and Usain Bolt, and this year’s site for the USA Track and Field Championships. Follow your own training plan or join Harlem Run for a workout from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. Runners of all abilities are welcome and encouraged to attend (must be 18 or older to participate).
Closing out the month, join us on August 29 for a Herbal Medicine Workshop from 1:00-3:00 PM, exploring the healing properties of plants grown right here on the farm.
